Here I am
Thanksgiving Day
searching online
for a scalloped potatoes recipe.
I’ve never made them
except from a box,
don’t own a cookbook
though I was given one
for a wedding gift.
I gave it to a more domestic friend,
told my husband
“I ain’t no Betty Crocker.”
Too young then to realize
someday I might need help.
