Tannin River

poison ivy marks the path
as it stalks its way between
pickets of aspen and birch

sun slots a canopy of flutters
over water the color of tea
tamarack’s taint of tannin

sandstone riverbed
carves easily into ledges and edges
water falls small for shoulder massage

large enough to sit behind and think
watch the marvel of dark tea pour itself
over to flow into a clear glass window
